Ragna Crimson Episode 5 Review: Ultimatia Makes Me Wanna Switch Sides
What's up, fellow dragon slayers and trauma survivors? If you're reading this, you probably watched Episode 5 of Ragna Crimson, and yeah, this one messed with my head.
This episode had zero fighting, zero action, but it had me holding my seat tighter than any brawl. It was all about mind games, revelations, and one psycho monarch who is making me question everything.
Part 1: Ragna's Crazy Visions (And the Ultimate Reveal)
The first part of the episode was absolutely nuts. Ragna is either dreaming about the future or straight-up getting memory flashbacks, and the information we got was insane.
I don't want to spoil the specifics too much, but let's just say this vision gave Ragna an offer to basically join the dragon side. That is a wild revelation! It tells you right away that the conflict isn't just black and white.
The Real Problem: I'm Falling for the Villain
The more I look at Ultimatia, the Winged Monarch, the more I realize I might be rooting for the wrong team. She is a total psycho bitch who will do anything in the name of her god. She's crazy. She's cruel.
But man, she is the type to love.
I know, I know, it screams toxic relationship, but when has a little toxicity ever stopped us in anime? I'm completely open to this doomed, toxic relationship storyline because she is just so compelling.
Her dialogue alone floored me. When she talks about destroying a great country, she says it with complete respect and sincerity, raising it to the ground. That is such a cold dialogue, and she delivers it with the gentlest voice. I was absolutely floored.
I have to be honest: I really don't see the villains in this anime as villains at all. They feel too real, too layered. I'm starting to think they're either not the main villains, or we're due for a massive plot twist that reveals the dragons are way more friendly than we thought.
(P.S. Yes, I know the anime has been out for years, but the last two years of my life were rough, and I missed all the spoilers. I'm coming back to anime fresh, so please, NO SPOILERS in the comments. Let me live!)
Part 2: Crimson's Crew and Ragna's Vibe
The second half of the episode was all about Ragna and Crimson reaching the capital. We got introduced to Crimson's people, and yeah, they are exactly as weird and schemy as you'd expect.
But the most relatable part? Ragna the protagonist is an absolute hardcore introvert. The way he struggles to deal with people and social situations? My guy, I feel you. It's the most relatable thing a super-powered main character has done all season.
The Cliffhanger That Matters
And of course, the episode had to end on a massive cliffhanger. Ragna finally sees Ultimatia in person. The tension is so thick you could cut it with a silver sword.
Something is about to go down, and after all those visions and all that unsettling dialogue from Ultimatia, I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen.
What did you guys think of Ragna's vision? And let me know in the comments: If Ultimatia offered you a spot in her little cult, are you smashing that accept button?
